The Science of Growing Up
The years between about nine and twelve are when many children first try things seriously, and when adults first feel pressure to pick a lane for them. The developmental research on this period is more settled than its reputation suggests, and on several questions it points firmly in one direction.
Here we summarise that research plainly: what the studies actually found, how strong the evidence is, and what it does and does not tell a parent to do.
