Humanities: What We Found

Most humanities learning in Singapore primary schools is curriculum, not an activity a family chooses. This covers what was found beyond it, for ages 9–12.

Not activities: Social Studies, Character and Citizenship Education, National Education, and Values in Action

Unlike most of the other Activity Guides on this site, humanities-related learning in Singapore primary schools is almost entirely curriculum or whole-cohort programming, not something an individual family chooses. Social Studies is one of the subjects in MOE’s primary curriculum. Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) is taught in lessons with dedicated curriculum time. National Education runs through commemorative days and cohort-wide learning journeys, typically one per level from Primary 1 through 6. Values in Action (VIA) is a school-wide programme, not an individually selected activity. At least one school’s page says its Primary 6 students also take part in a Citizenship Education Quiz every two years and a National Education Quiz each year.

None of this is a CCA a child joins or a class a parent enrols in — every student in a given level does the same thing as part of standard schooling. This page doesn’t cover any of it further; it covers what exists beyond it.

What’s available beyond the curriculum

Children’s Season. A museum festival for families with children aged 12 and under, organised by Children’s Museum Singapore with support from the National Heritage Board and the Museum Roundtable. The 2026 edition ran from 30 May to 28 June, during the June holidays, with performances, hands-on activities, parent-child workshops and a weekend carnival at venues across Singapore. Its 2026 theme was sustainable living rather than history or heritage, so check the theme of any future edition.

That is the only humanities-related option found that a family can choose for a child this age. None of the 31 primary schools’ CCA lists checked for these guides includes a club focused on history, heritage, philosophy or current affairs.
