A one-page printable on the Five Cs of Positive Youth Development: competence, confidence, connection, character and caring. For each, it gives a plain definition and the small, everyday places it tends to show up at home.

It isn’t a checklist to work through. The qualities grow out of ordinary family life rather than being taught directly, and the sixth, contribution, is what tends to follow once the other five are genuinely there.

The research behind the Five Cs, and what it does and doesn’t claim, is covered in Beyond Grades: What the Research Actually Says Predicts a Child’s Success.
